World Cancer Day

The 14th of February, World cancer day commemoration had been a success. Over five hundred people, including, Health professionals, Pupils from various schools, College and University students, market women and representatives from various civil society organisations attend the program.

The commemoration of this day as planned started with a match pass, for which T-Shirts and banners were printed. There were two groups, one from the West started marching from Lumley police station and the other

group from the East started from Up-gun Turntable. The converging point was at the National stadium, were short statements were delivered. The special guest for the event was WHO Country Representative, Dr. Jacob Mufunda. Refreshment was provided for all attendants.Other activities that preceded the commemorations of this day were:
Radio/TV discussions and a press conference.

The objectives of commemorating this day were to promote evidence based education and prevention strategies and screening and early detection of cancer. This event also complements the World Cancer Declaration’s call, upon all government leaders to significantly reduce the global cancer burden, promote greater equity and integrate cancer control into health and development agendas.
